GSSE San Marino 2017: Day 1 brought two golds and a silver for Montenegro

Athlete Marija Vukovic and the bowls double team Miroslav Petkovic – Djuro Milanovic have won gold medals for Montenegro on the first day of the competition at the Games of the Small States of Europe in San Marino. The third medal, a silver, was won by the athlete Tomas Djurovic.

Marija Vukovic managed this by clearing the height of 191 cm in high jump. This is her fourth gold on the Games, in an event which she won in 2011, 2013 and 2015. It took her one attempt to clear the bar at 171, 177, 183 and 189 cm. At 194 cm she took down the bar three times. The silver went to Maria Run Gunnlaugsdottir from Iceland (171 cm), while the bronze was shared by Claudia Guri Moreno of Andorra and Melissa Michelotti of San Marino (168 cm).

Our athlete Tomas Djurovic won silver in Men's Shot Put, but he was a long way from his best result – almost a meter short. His shot of 18.80 m was enough for second place, while the national record that he set himself is 19.74 m.

Bowls

Petkovic and Milanovic, on the other hand, won the top spot of the podium on their debut performance. At least one more medal will be brought by the duo, as the individual semi-final in bowls puts them against each other – Petkovic vs Milanovic.

Table Tennis

Both men and women have advanced to semifinals in table tennis, and secured a medal – which medal precisely, will be known tomorrow.

Luka Bakic and Filip Radovic achieved maximum result against Iceland and San Marino – both double matches were won by 3-0.

Snezana Culafic and Ivona Petric beat Cyprus and Monaco with a maximum score of 3-0, while against San Marino they celebrated with 3-2.

Basketball

Montenegrin basketball team started its competition by beating Luxembourg 79:57. The team led by Bosko Radovic did not really shine, had both ups and downs, but the question of the winner was never really raised.

The decisive advantage was gained in the finels of the third and the beginning of the last quarter – the 14-0 streak saw Montenegro raise the score to 67:48.

The duel between Montenegro and Luxembourg was attended by the President of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach. He announced that he will visit Montenegro in May 2019.

"I wish you luck in the organization of the next Games of the Small States. I already know that the opening ceremony will take place on May 27, 2019, and I will do everything in my power to be there", said the first man of the Olympic Movement at today's press conference in San Marino.

The most effective player of our theme was Milutin Djukanovic with 17 points; Aleksa Ilic scored 15, while Nemanja Radovic completed the match with 10 points.

Montenegro will play against Andorra in the second round, tomorrow at 5:30pm.

Archers Milan Borovic and Mina Sibalic advanced to quarter-finals of the tournament in San Marino.

Borovic finished his qualification run as fifth with 632 points.

Sibalic also managed fifth, with 547 points.

Jovana Terzic failed to qualify in her 100 meters freestyle attempt. She was fifth in her group with a score of 60.33 seconds, which was enough for 10th in the qualifications.

Shooting

Shooter Jovica Markovic will be fighting in finals, as he was fifth in his qualifying run.

Beach Volleyball

The volleyball duo Andrej Bojic – Marko Bagaric was defeated by a pair from San Marino 2:0 (21:12, 21:18).
