The President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, Dusan Simonovic, visited the national team of Montenegro participating at the Special Olympics World Winter Games "Austria 2017". Simonovic visited our competitors at the ski slopes and attended the qualifying race of Montenegrin skier Valentina Rakonjac in giant slalom discipline. The socializing resumed later at the hotel, where the President stayed with our team. National team of Montenegro is participating with six athletes, three of them compete in alpine skiing (in slalom, giant slalom and super giant slalom), and the other three compete in the race on snowshoes, in the disciplines of 25 and 50 meters. Special Olympics is an international organization that brings together children and adults with intellectual disabilities, in order to help them to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents through sports, training and competition. Special Olympics World Winter Games are held from 14 to 25 March 2017, and are bringing together more than 3,000 athletes from 110 countries, competing in nine sports, and in several places: Schladming, Graz, Ramsau and Rohrmoos. President Simonovic was in Austria as guest of honor of the Special Olympics, and attended the opening ceremony of the Games at the Planai Stadium in Schladming, on March 18th.
