Montenegro will participate in the very first Mediterranean Beach Games, which will be held in Pescara between 28 August and 6 September. The Beach Games are organized by the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG). There will be athletes from 24 Mediterranean countries who will compete in sports such as volleyball, handball, football, tennis and wrestling in the sand. In addition, athletes will compete in fin swimming (swimming with flippers), swimming in open water, sea kayaking, water skiing and aquathlons (sort of triathlon consisting of swimming and running). The games will be attended, among the others, by the following countries of the region: Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia. Participants are also Egypt, Turkey, Syria, Italy and Algeria. ICMG has decided in Izmir, Turkey in 2012 that these Games are to be held every four years.
