Our junior water polo team has been defeated in the quarter-final of the European Games in Baku, against Russia 11:8, and will be playing for positions 9 – 12 until the end of the tournament. Russia deserved to be among the top 8, as it led throughout the match, except with the initial 1:0 for Montenegro. At one time the result was 5:2, but Mirko Vicevic's players managed to get to 7:7. It looked like they can make a complete turnover, but then they failed to score with an extra player when the result was 8:7 in Russia's favour. Saveljic then managed to make a penalty and received a third exclusion. Russia advanced to 9:7 and then calmly led to the end. – We are a better team than Russia, but have failed to show it in the game. We made mistakes, did not listen to the orders from the bench and as a result we lost. It will be difficult to find a motive for the rest of the matches, but hopefully we will make it – said the goalkeeper, Petar Tesanovic. – I thought we could go far and fight for one of the medals. We had high ambitions and did not conceal them. At the least, we argued that we are on par with everyone, but it turned out we do not have players which can bear the role of the favorite – said coach Mirko Vicevic. Montenegro will be playing at 3 pm tomorrow, against the loser from the match France – Slovakia.
