Proud on our results Six years ago (July 7th 2007) International Olympic Committee accepted the Montenegrin Olympic Committee to the Olympic family. It was a historic moment for Montenegrin sport, which has enabled our athletes to compete under the Montenegrin flag, at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, and win the first Olympic medal at London Games in 2012. Montenegrin Olympic Committee has marked this anniversary by a cocktail reception at Hotel Podgorica, and it was an opportunity to remind everyone of some of the greatest successes of our sport and our "house of Olympism." In the presence of a number of former and current athletes, as well as representatives of public, Dusan Simonovic, the President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, has wished a warm welcome to everyone. – On this day six years ago we have been recognized by the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic family of nations, in Guatelmala City. It was a big day for Montenegro. A number of successes confirm this, numerous achievements over the past six years, which are only a pledge that such results will be achieved in the future – said Simonovic. The first man of the Montenegrin "house of Olympism," recalled some of the greatest successes and performances at major competitions. – First of all, there are the Beijing Olympic Games, and the Games in London where we gained our first medal. At the Mediterranean Games in Pescara and Mersin we have won 12 medals, and we are especially proud of the performance at the Games of Small States, where Montenegro is rightfully referred to as a real sports superpower. Simonovic has mentioned the following major competitions, which are awaiting Montenegrin athletes in the near future. – Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 are at the center of our preparations and plans. In a few days we're off to European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht, and half a year from today the Winter Olympics in Sochi are coming as well. Montenegrin athletes are preparing for the first European Games in Azerbaijan, as well as the first Games in the sand in Pescara. Olympic Games in Rio are our ultimate goal, where we will, I hope, shine as we did at the Beijing Olympics, and especially at the Olympics in London – said Simonovic. Last night, the Montenegrin Olympic Committee has awarded plaques to some of the long-term partners. Mirjana Boskovic, the Principal of the elementary school "Radojica Perovic", received a plaque for cooperation in a number of projects implemented in the development of sport, on behalf of the school.
