Established Montenegrin Olympians Club

Most important element of sport is its development, progress, expansion and preservation of sport in it. Finally, Montenegro got such organization and association in sport, club. Former participants of the Olympic Games, well known Montenegrin athletes who won medals for their country, managed to realize excellent idea and create club that will be home for present and future Olympians and all other top athletes.
It is enough just to mention names: Igor Vušurović, Mirko Vičević, Ljiljana Mugoša-Vučević, in order to understand their will and desire to help and improve our sport. Anent this whole story, yesterday was organized press conference, program was presented including goals and aims of this club.

– I am very happy to be in such company, and happy to see you in this number, I would like to stress that at the last meeting of MOC we agreed about creation of the Montenegrin Olympians Club, and we will present you its way of functioning – said the President of MOC Dušan Simonović in his welcoming speech.

For the coordinator of the club was elected well known water polo player Andrija Popović, who is mostly „to blame“ for creation of the club.

– Club will be composed of Initiative Board, whose members will be: Olympians athletes, former, present and future, coaches, selectors, experts and all people who could help our club in sport sense. We would like to improve our Olympic sport, expand it, develop, protect it, to fight against doping, influence of politics on all kinds of sport.

I believe we could help in presenting Montenegro in best possible way by its athletes. Our obligations are great and difficult but we are ready to support all Olympians.

I would like to stress that all athletes responded to our invitation, and that is proof that with those names we can be an authority in Montenegrin sport – concluded Popović.

Besides Andrija Popović, journalists were addressed by former well known water polo player Mirko Vičević, who announced that the Olympians Club will represent new strength of our sport:

– We must gather strength, we must support Montenegrin athletes. Our gathering will be of great importance, and I believe that Montenegrin athletes will get great strength through us and in that way conclude story known as the Montenegrin Olympians Club. We hope that its function will be well used – said Vičević.
