Primorac and women handball national team awarded

In traditional election of Montenegrin Olympic Committee, water polo club Primorac and women handball national team of Montenegro are elected for most successful sport teams in 2009.

In this year, Primorac won Euro league and European Super Cup- President Denis Mandić said that this award from MOC encompasses successful season of this club. “We showed that we can win trophies. I am truly sorry that the team could be here today at the ceremony, but we have important match tonight where we expect to won only trophy we don’t have yet”, said Mandić.

Women handball national team won bronze medal at Mediterranean Games in Pescara. Right wing of the team Jovanka Radičević thanked for the award on behalf of her teammates and promised to fight for new successes. “I can promise that in the next year we will give our best to affirm and represent Montenegro in best possible way. I hope that after the European Championship next year we will see each other at this same place”, said Radičević.

Award for best young athlete went to water polo player Darko Brguljan, member of Primorac from Kotor. With Primorac, he won the Euro league anf the Super Cup, and with the national team World League and silver medal at the European Junior Championship. Due to obligations in the club, Brguljan couldn’t attend the ceremony. “In best possible way, Brguljan represents Primorac school. Out of 14 European junior champions, two years ago and finalists of this year’s European Championship, 11 is from Kotor, and currently 10 of them are playing form Primorac. He is a symbol of one generation that will, hopefully, bring us medal from the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro”, said Mandić.

Most successful young female athlete, according to MOC, is athlete Marija Vuković, who won the second place in high jump at the European Championship for older juniors. With result 189 cm, she is the best positions athlete at the world charts in junior category for this tear. Due to preparations, Vuković wasn’t present at the ceremony, but on her behalf award was received by je Božidar Jaredić, official from the Athletic Federation of Montenegro.

President of MOC, Dušan Simonović said that this year was very successful one and he wished for the next 2010. to be for "ten". “I hope that it will be so, and that we will be proud of all young people we presented on this ceremony and for sure will admire them next year”, said Simonović.

Minister of Culture, Sport and Media, Branislav Mićunović said that athletes are pride of Montenegro and that they have proved it so many times. “What differs sport from other disciplines is that it is not obligatory yet it is practiced in honor of human spirit and your own country. You are Montenegrin pride and you proved it last year. We promise you support at the highest leves, as you deserved", said Mićunović.
