Having all this in mind, in our and your Magazine there will be space for everybody – for those who are Montenegrin present, but also for those who wrote the history of Montenegrin sport. Main goal is to presentgreatness and importance of Olympism to general public and at the same time to motivate our athletes to be even better. Goals are demanding, but we are assured we will achieve them. As much as we believe that Montenegrin athletes will be more succesfull in three years in London than they were in Beijing, and that in Rio in 2016. they will be more successful than in London.. COVERSATION WITH OCCASION: DUŠAN SIMONOVIĆ, PRESIDENT OF THE MONTENEGRIN OLYMPIC COMMITTE ABOUT IMPRESSIONS FROM COPENHAGEN Athlets are heart of the Olympic Movement President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, Dušan Simonović attended the three-day session of the 13th Olympic Congress and 121st Session of the International Olympic Committee in Copenhagen. „Topics of the Congress were athletes, relations between athletes, clubs, federations and national Olympic Committee, health protection of athletes during trainings and competitions (with right this topic was dedicated great attention), social and professional life during and after elite competitions“ said Simonović. „Second topic were the Olympic Games and how to maintain the Games as top, premier sport event, value of the Games and universality of sport idea. Word was about the structure of the Olympic Movement, authonomy of the Olympic Committee, good management, ethics and relations between leaders. One of topics was Olympism, movement towards active society and whether competitive sport is still challenging. Activities were shown in area of digital evolution“, stressed Simonović. President of MOC explained basic and essential conclusions from the Congress, and there were over 60. „Actually, those are reccommendations of IOC. Athletes are heart of the Olympic Movement, rolemodels for next generations and they should be encouraged. They need to be involved in managerial bodies of the Olympic Movement, sport commissions, they must be provided competitions in accordance to highest standards. They also must be provided legal advice and reference during their career, introduced to standardised contracts as way of protection from agencies, sponsors, help them build their career… Unique conclusion was that athletes and the Olympic Movement must support fight against doping, without any tollerance“, says Simonović. It is quite clear that the Olympic Games are unique experience and they bring along unforgetable impressions… „IOC must put maximum efforts to preserve them as unique evnt, and Olympic Movement must preserve Olympic values. Basic task of the Olympic Movement will be support and promotion of the United Nations. The Internatinoal Olympic Committe must actively support members of the Olympic Movement, international federations and Committees, whenever their authonomy is threatened“, says the President of MOC. Olympism and youth „Olympic Movement must increase influence on young people in order to improve their participation in physical activities. It was noticed that in computer era, lots of children and young people alienate from sport. IOC must create comprehensive strategy in order to meet young people, encourage clubs and federations to closesly cooperate with schools and develop sport programs, as well as to use the Olympic Games for young people as overall effort and fight in that direction“, says Simonović. Brasil – exceptional sport nation Were you, and in what extent surprised by the decision that Rio was elected host city for OG 2016? „For the first time, the Games will be organised in South America, and I believe it had something to do with the decision. But, having in mind everything that happened before and having in mind how much was Rio active towards National Olympic Committees, „bombing“ tham with various presentations, proposals, ideas and all other sorts of contents presenting the host city, I believe it was that it showed slight asset comparing to others. So, no, I wasn’t surprised because it is one exceptional sport nation“. But other candidates were also serious, professional and very engaged? „It seems that Madrid expressed most emotion. Chicago was relentless in presentation of its possibilities and assets. So far, USA was organiser of big events several times, and they entered the story with great expectations, and it wasn’t easy for them, that’s true. It was tough competition. All four cities put great effort, energy, financial means in order to present themselves in best possible way“, says Simonović. Cooperation with Cyprus Contacts are important part of the story? „We signed the Agreement with Cyprus, it was also announced signing of the Agreement with the Russian Olympic Committe, but since their president had to return to Russia, we postponed it for a while. Cooperation with big ones can only benefit us. Cyprus is one of nine small European countries up to one million inhabitants, and since we are alaso in that Association which represents our little power that can help us for our future activities within the European Olympic Committee and IOC. We have good relations with ex-Yugoslav countries, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaaria, Albania, Turkey, Austria, we foster them, learn something from them, some because we are new fresh energy within the Olympic Movement.
