JACQUES ROGGE NEW-OLD PRESIDENT OF IOC

New mandate for Belgian

Jacques Rogge was reelceted president for the International Olympic Committee. Belgian will stay on this position of the first man of IOC for next four years.

– We achieved lots of things together. I am very proud for the job done in last eight years – said Rogge after elections. Jacques Rogge who took over this position in 2001. From Juan Antonio Samaran, was the only candidate on these elections and he got 88 votes, while one member of the Executive Board was against, and three abstained. Rogge is eight President of IOC since this organisation was founded in 1894. Two years before first modern Olympic Games in Athens. After supervision of organisation of the Winter Olympic Games in Torino 2006. and the Olympic Games in Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, Rogge will be involved in organisation of the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver 2010. And London 2012, which will be his last Games, because according to the rulebook of IOC, one person can be President not longer than 12 years.

Rogge announced continuation of fight against doping and illicit substances in sport. For new Vice Presidents of IOC are elected Mario Pescante from Italy and Miang Ng from Singapour, while the Executive Board reelected 106 members of the Committee.
