Congress AASE in Larnaka MOC accepted into Association of Small European Countries On 5th June in Larnaka (Cyprus), Montenegrin Olympic Committee became new 9th member of Association of Small European Countries (AASE). It was decided on Congress of this Association, gathering European countries with less than million inhabitants. This Association is organizer of sport event under the Olympic flag – Games of Small Countries, whose 13th edition was held from 2nd to 6th June in Larnaka. Members of this Association are also Cyprus, Andorra, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Malta and San Marino. Montenegrin athletes have right to compete in next Games to be held in Lichtenstein 2011. “This competition is very prestigious and very important to us, and in near future, Montenegro could be the host of this sport event gathering around thousand athletes”, said president of MOC, Dušan Simonović, who was in Larnaka together with Igor Vušurović, member of the Executive Board of MOC. Idea about organization of such competition and creation of Association of Small European Countries existed in 1960es, but realization of such idea happened not before the Olympic Games in Los Angeles 1984. First Games of Small Countries were held in 1985. in San Marino, with seven sports and 304 athletes. In Cyprus competed around 900 athletes in 11 sports. Games are held every two years, in accordance with the Olympic Charter and rules of International sport federations, and under patronage of the European Olympic Committee.
