Montenegro marked the Olympic Day today, a holiday of sports and Olympism, which is celebrated as a part of the "birth" of the modern Olympic Games on June 23, 1894. The central event, organized by the Montenegrin Olympic Committee (MOC), was held at the Stadium of Little Sports in Podgorica, in cooperation with the Capital and the Secretariat for Sports and Culture. From this place, another message was sent about how much sport means to Montenegro and how the spirit of Olympism is nurtured in our country. "Olympic Day, which is celebrated since 1947, is primarily a day to promote the idea of Olympism. It is celebrated every year on June 23, which is the date of the founding of the International Olympic Committee at the Sorbonne in Paris, in 1894, when Pierre de Coubertin revived the Olympic Games. Olympic Day is a promotion of the Olympic movement, Olympic values, healthy lifestyles and the importance of practicing sports. The Olympic day is more than a sports event because, in addition to sports, it involves cultural and educational activities, gathering and uniting everyone regardless of age, gender, social background or sports skills. That is why I am extremely glad that, in addition to our athletes and distinguished guests, I see so many children from all over Montenegro here. I am also grateful for the participation of a large number of Montenegrin primary schools in the Art Competition, which we organized in cooperation with our partner, Jugopetrol and a large number of drawings that arrived, which illustrate how our youngest experience the Olympic movement, Olympic team and Montenegrin sports in general. Finally, I would like to thank everyone who came to be part of the Olympic Day, as well as the Capital and our sponsors for their support in organizing this important event", said the President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, Dusan Simonovic. Milos Antic, Assistant Secretary for Culture and Sports of the Capital, addressed the audience as well. "We are honored and pleased to host such a beautiful event, which celebrates true values. It is our special pleasure to see so many children, who are learning how important it is to practice sports and how much, for that very reason, their and our future will be better and healthier. I also greet our Olympians, as well as the greats of our sport, with the conviction that many of these boys and girls will embark on their paths to glory”, he said. A month ago, the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, in cooperation with Jugopetrol AD (ECO gas stations - the official fuel of the Montenegrin Olympic team), launched an art competition with the aim of introducing elementary school students to the Olympic values, the Tokyo Games and our Olympic team.
