The President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, Mr. Dušan Simonović, and the Minister of Sports and Youth, Mr. Vasilije Lalošević, hosted a reception for the President of the European Fencing Confederation, Mr. Giorgio Scarso, with whom they discussed the development of fencing in Montenegro. Mr. Scarso expressed his gratitude to President Simonović and Minister Lalošević for the reception and for their desire to provide all the necessary assistance in starting fencing in our country. Scarso is convinced that, in the foreseeable future, Montenegro will become the 46th member of the European Fencing Confederation, which, as he emphasized, will put all its efforts into helping the formation of the National Federation and its admission into the International Association. The President of the Montenegrin Olympic Committee, Dušan Simonović, expressed his satisfaction that there is an idea about the birth of a new Olympic sport in Montenegro, especially since it is a discipline that has a long tradition. He also emphasized the readiness of the National Olympic Committee to provide the necessary support in the initiation and operation of the future federation. The Minister of Sports and Youth, Vasilije Lalošević, also presented the readiness of his department to provide all institutional assistance in the formation of the fencing association in Montenegro, as well as in the establishment of the first fencing clubs in the country. Fencing has been an Olympic sport since the beginning of the idea of the modern Olympic Games, and has been part of all Games since 1896. Italy and France are the most dominant national teams in history, with 130 and 123 Olympic medals, respectively. The President of the International Olympic Committee, Mr. Thomas Bach, is the Olympic champion in fencing from the Games in Montreal in 1976.
