Performances of the Montenegrin National Team at the European Games

Unfortunately, Vladimir Mijač did not manage to qualify for the semifinals of the European Games. Our representative in karate, among the top eight in Europe, did not advance from the group stage, facing tough competition from Olympic medallist Quintero from Spain, multiple European medallist Ujihara from Switzerland, and French representative Ngoan.

The Montenegrin Athletics Team finished in eighth place at the European Team Championships Third League, held as part of the European Games.

After 37 disciplines, Montenegrin athletes scored 258 points, surpassing Albania by one point and Armenia by three points. On the final day of competition, Marija Vuković triumphed in the high jump, while Marija Bogavac finished in third place in the javelin throw.

Vuković secured the only victory for the Montenegrin team in Poland with a jump of 187 centimetres. "The goal was to secure first place and the maximum number of points for Montenegro," said Marija, who returned to the track after a month and a half of injury recovery.

"Jumping 187 centimetres after a break is more than good, especially considering that I trained for only seven days. I realized that I could do it. I had good jumps, but I lacked speed, strength, and aggression," Vuković said.

Bogavac claimed third place in the javelin throw with a result of 45.15 meters. "To be honest, I'm not satisfied with the result, but the most important thing is the points we gained for the team. I am back on the big stage after nine years, so considering everything, third place is quite alright," Bogavac said. Dragan Pešić finished in fifth place in the high jump (185 cm), and Tomaš Đurović in the shot put (18.21 m).

Montenegrin shooters Nevena Šaranović and Anđela Miličković, among 38 competitors in the women's 10-meter air pistol discipline, were far from qualifying for the final. Šaranović finished 33rd with a score of 557, while Miličković placed last among the 38 competitors with 548 points.

Montenegrin boxers have been paired with opponents at the start of the European Games. Bojana Gojković will face experienced Spanish boxer Maria Romero Molina in the first round of the 54-kilogram category, a 37-year-old boxer with experience even in the professional ring. If she defeats her first opponent, Bojana will face Taylor Davison from Great Britain in the second round, who finished ninth at the Tokyo Olympics and fifth at the World Championships in Istanbul last year. Stefan Savković has a bye in the first round in the 71-kilogram category, and his second-round opponent will be Gurgen Madoyan from Armenia, who also received a bye in the first round. Madoyan finished ninth at this year's world championship in Tashkent, but in a lower weight category. In the 80-kilogram category, Petar Marčić will also face Armenian opponent Hambardzum Hakobyan. If he overcomes the first hurdle, his opponent in the next round will be the winner of the match between Akilov from Hungary and Mironchikov from Serbia. According to the official schedule on the European Games website, Bojana Gojković is scheduled to compete on July 23, and the program in the 54 kg category starts at 1:00 PM. Petar Marčić is expected to start on June 24, and Stefan Savković a day later. The schedule is subject to change.
